Spotlight on Lauren Kim

A short presentation from Cooperative Aid volunteer, donator, and OR surgery aide Lauren Kim about the group’s work in Liberia.

Lauren has delivered surgical and medical supplies, obtained nearly $200,000 of equipment donated by Medtronic, and connected the Yale alumni group from Orange County and Providence Mission Hospital from Mission Viejo to donate medical tools. Lauren has participated in numerous surgeries in Liberia, helping patients in the OR with anything from hydrocephalus to bone cancer. Lauren was also involved in Liberia’s first ever medical halo brace, used to stabilize a patient’s spine after a broken neck.

Lauren has also assisted in a number of Cooperative Aid clinics, which included a sewing workshop which taught Liberian women to use sewing machines. Afterwards, the women were given the machines to start their own businesses.
